Doug Allen, MD
President, Brown & Toland Physicians
Doug Allen, MD, joined Altais as president of Brown & Toland Physicians in March 2023. He came to Altais from Blue Shield of California, where he held the role of senior medical director. In his time at Blue Shield, Allen led several efforts focused on risk adjustment, including creation of an annual risk adjustment visit program. He began his career as an internist and has more than 24 years’ experience in health care administration. He has held chief medical officer, vice president and senior vice president positions with medical groups, independent physician associations and health plans. Organizations he has worked with include CareMore, HealthCare Partners, Heritage Provider Network, Greater Newport Physicians, Molina, PacifiCare and Blue Shield of California. Allen was the first national chief medical officer for Optum’s medical group.
